I've never been here but I just thought it would be fun to chime in! The staggering number of terrible reviews this business has received (coupled with comically atrocious responses from management) makes me gag at the very thought of stepping inside this possibly parasite-infested, probably immoral, and certainly distasteful excuse for a store. I look forward to legal retribution from the owners — although I'm sure they'll be shut down long before then.
-Proof that the dogs have been dewormed every 14 days between 2-8 weeks of age. If not, it's pretty likely your dog will be sick.
-Documentation of the "breeder." Then, LOOK IT UP yourself. Don't just take their word for it. It's very likely that the dog will be coming from a puppy mill. Yes, I know CT has laws against it. That doesn't mean Puppies of Westport isn't breaking the law.
There are tons of great breeders out there, many in PA or NJ that will sell you dogs that have been properly cared for and well bred. If you don't want to adopt, fine. But don't buy a sick dog from this cruel place. That just doesn't make any sense.
I know they're going to attack me for "taking away each person's right to make a choice,". So I'll say this:
Great people, great puppies, great prices. If you're looking for a puppy dog, here's the place to go. Awesome group of people.
You can tell that Puppies of Westport is unprofessional just based on how rude the replies to negative reviews are.
I would be mad, but I almost feel bad for the owners—it's really sad how desperate they are to get rid of the stigma associated with their store.
"Do you think that rescue groups aren't in this business to make money?"
Respectful businesses ALWAYS treat customers with understanding and empathy, regardless of the review. That's the first thing any sales associate learns.
"You have no right to take away each person's right to make a choice."
I wish I could give this place 0 stars. We bought a beautiful puppy from this place in May and as soon as we got him home we knew something was wrong. He's the sweetest boy but he's had parasite infections that are incredibly difficult to get rid of and we've spent hundreds of dollars trying to treat it since. When we took him to our vet they actually said, " Oh... well you DID get a Westport puppy. It's their signature." In addition , we got the biggest run around trying to get reimbursed for our dog's medical care as it says in our contract. This place is terrible. Unprofessional, sick dogs, and young kids who don't know anything about the breeds. We love our puppy but if we had known we'd have looked elsewhere. DON'T DO IT.
You should totally make a choice. But make an INFORMED choice. Do your research. Before buying a dog here, ask for:
We got our beautiful Chusky from Puppies of Westport and are very happy. They truly love their dogs and recommend very healthy food and supplements.
Don't buy a dog from here. Most of them are sick, just read the reviews. The owners will counter this by saying that "it's common for puppies to have worms." This is true! That's why the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) recommends deworming puppies every 14 days, beginning at two weeks of age and continuing until at least eight weeks of age. It makes sense then to assume that Puppies of Westport does not do this. If they did, their puppies most likely wouldn't be sick as frequently as they are.
